December 4, 2012 ~ Day 4: Giving our hearts (with a star)

“After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.”
Matthew 2:9-10.

Day 4

Thoughts ~ I love the Christmas story and find that it is an easy time of year to share my faith. Like the star, we can point people to Jesus. Unbelievers expect Christians to talk more, post more and say more about God during Christmas time. I find that they almost expect it and I “take advantage” of it whenever I can. Sadly, many businesses tell their employees to say Happy Holidays so no one is offended, but if the customer says Merry Christmas, they can respond the same way if they want to. Happily, I am self employed and will continue spreading Christmas joy . . . and pointing people to Jesus.
Let's follow the star to Jesus!

Action ~ Today our focus is on joy and the star. I have a lot of little wooden stars that I am writing Joy in Jesus on one side and Matthew 2:9-10 on the other. The reason I add scripture to the star is I want to point people to God’s word, not have them think this is just a cute phrase. You just never know when it will prompt someone to go look the scripture up and then linger a while reading the whole story of Jesus birth. You could use star stickers and put them on slips of paper or buy a stand of Christmas stars from the dollar store and cut them up. Also, the dollar stores have lots of stars in the school section. You’ll be surprised what $5.00 will buy there if you look for multiples in a pack. But also, you can get creative and not spend a penny. Just like days 1 and 2, we will leave the stars in surprise places, with our generous tips, or give them to people we pass on our way. I love the idea of giving a star candle like the one in the image but finances don’t permit that right now.

Prayer ~ Father, direct us to the people who need joy so we can share the faith we have in your Son, Jesus.  Amen

Trusting in the Lord,
Becky

Note: Next year I hope to paint little wooden ornaments during the summer time when I have more free time so I have baggies full of these stars that point the way to Jesus. This felt one is really cute and the words could easily be changed to Joy in Jesus, if you are a sewer.
