May 23, 2012 ~ Temptations

But remember that the temptations that come into your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can't stand up against it. When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you will not give in to it.
1 Corinthians 10:13

Thoughts~

London, England has a huge underground network of trains or “tubes” as they often call them. The trains travel underground all over the city and the WAY OUT signs help foreigners and locals to navigate out to the street level.

The first time I saw this sign it immediately brought to my mind 1 Corinthians 10:13, especially the last sentence: “When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you will not give in to it.” God has created signs in our heart that urge us to stay clear of the temptations that life tosses at us and on top of that, He will show us how to get out of predicaments we find ourselves in. Gee,do we ever find ourselves in them! Just because we are Christians doesn’t mean we will be sheltered from temptations.

I am so thankful for this promise and hold it close to my heart. As I study His word and apply it to my life, the temptations that enter my life seem to have blinking lights around them like a neon sign in Las Vegas. And God always shows me the way out!

Action~

What temptations have you faced today? Did God show you a way out or were you listening? The key word here is listen. God will never fail to show you a way out but if you have ear plugs in, you won’t hear Him.

Take some time to list temptations that come your way. Next to each one, write down how God has given you a way out. Sometimes it’s that very still whisper of the Holy Spirit, urging you to flee. Be sure you listen. Be sure to take the ear plugs out.

Pray~

God thank you for showing me a way out.  I am in awe that You have made life easier for me as long as I listen to You: through your word, through Your Holy Spirit and through strong believers. Thank You for the people who speak truth into my life.

Trusting in Him,

May 22, 2012 ~ Prayer Relief

But certainly God has heard me;
He has attended to the voice of my prayer.
Psalm 66:19

Alka-Seltzer created a jingle “plop plop, fizz fizz, oh what a relief it is” back in 1953.  Over the years it has resurfaced and brings with it a little nostalgia for anyone old enough to have heard it. It reminds me of the sweet bliss of relief when God answers my prayers.

God does not always say “yes” to me. He sometimes says “no” or “not yet” or I have something better in mind.” But no matter how He responds, there is such a relief for me when He does answer. It relieves my heart of wondering what to do, where to go. I seek Him in my plans because my past shows me His ideas for my life are so much better than mine.

Even as I trust the Lord with my life, my humanness often gets in the way while I am waiting. I sense myself tap, tap, tapping as I wait and catch myself quickly. I try to refocus on other things that I need to accomplish so I am not consumed with the waiting process.

It is my tapping that reminds me that God has a perfect plan for me.  Jeremiah 29:11 is the all time great reminder of the plans that are designed for the people who have given their lives to Him. I know that He will answer me at the right time and bring relief.

 Action~

What prayers have you heard God answer differently than you expected He would? Did you soon understand His answer or did it take some time?

Today, think about the “top-priority” prayer you have. Ask God to help you stop tapping your foot in impatience and to give you extra grace in the waiting process. Ask Him for relief.

Pray~

Lord, thank you for answered prayer! I feel sweet relief and delight that You love me so much to open windows, close doors and direct me along other paths.Oh what a relief it is to have You answer my prayers.

Trusting in Him,
Becky
