December 3, 2012 ~ Day 3: Giving our hearts (with a card)

I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all.
Philippians 1:3-4

Day 3 of 25

THOUGHTS ~ Today I was thinking about how we could make December 3rd special for people as we give our hearts through God’s love. Since this is the first time I have done 25 days of giving for people outside of my family, it is a new experience for me too. And then, as I was walking through the dollar store, I saw a rack of Thank You cards and I knew what we could do. Years ago when I was a nail technician my clients showered me with so many thank you cards and gifts at Christmas time.  It was so much fun to see what they picked out for me, but mostly, it meant so much that they thought about what I did for them.

ACTION ~ With the internet a big way of communication, sending real thank you cards is not done like it was even 15 years ago. And so, let’s add a special touch and grab a box or two from our desk drawer or purchase some at the dollar store like I did. Send them or give them out, but say thank you in writing to people who make a difference in your life today and in the weeks ahead. Keep some in your car so you can fill one out for particular people you aren’t even thinking about. For example, as I started writing mine, I came up with a large list but all of a sudden thought: why not give one to my favorite checker at the market, to the car wash attendant who goes the extra mile and to the mail man? There are so many people I might forget about but if I have a box in my car or purse, I can always write one out quickly.

Let’s shower people with gratitude cards this Christmas season. And please, take the extra second to write Merry Christmas (not xmas) and honor the Lord. If you are blessed with extra finances you could add little gift cards to some of them, a single Christmas ornament or even a small box of candy or cookies.  But remember, this is not about spending money but giving our hearts. People love knowing we care. Maybe I sound like a Hallmark commercial today, but I so believe we can bring a little joy to people by saying thanks!

PRAYER ~ I will give thanks to You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, And will glorify Your name forever (Psalm 86:12). Help us to remember to thank all of the people that make a difference in our lives. Amen

Trusting in the Lord forever,
Becky
