September 27, 2012 ~ Lead my daughter along straight paths

I instruct you in the way of wisdom
and lead you along straight paths.
When you walk, your steps will not be hampered;
when you run, you will not stumble.
Proverbs 4:11-12
Thoughts~

For 4 years I have been praying for my youngest daughter. All her life of course, but specifically for the past 5. Because this blog is private it is not fair to share any details but I will say that she is a young woman who, if she followed the Lord, would have tremendous power in her witnessing and boldness. And yet, she has been walking away from Him instead of forward. So she is being unused.

To be unused is probably something pastors need to preach on a lot more than they do, if they do. I’ll grab my soap box tonight and help them out.

SOME VISUAL EXAMPLES of being unused:
Having the best hand mixer available to you and using a fork to make whipping cream.
Hand watering your entire garden because you don’t want to have to roll the hose back up.
Having a riding lawnmower but leaving it in the garage and using a push mower on your grass?
Having the best Bible in your favorite version with a real leather cover and it sits on a shelf, unopened and unused so it doesn’t get damaged.
Being given the gift of evangelism and allowing it to stagnate.

4 years ago my daughter told a teacher of hers that she was not religious but she was in a relationship with Jesus.  She always invited unsaved kids from her school to church.  She was so bold and so filled with the Holy Spirits guidance: she was always sharing Jesus!

And then she took a detour from her intimate walk with Jesus.  And my prayers for her became stronger and stronger as I asked God to bring her back to Him. However, He allowed her to go her own way and has been waiting for her to WANT to come back to Him. He directed her in the way of wisdom and led her in upright paths but she needed to find her way back to that path in the way that would mean the most to her faith. She needed to hit bottom.

And she did. Today she texted me:
"I need to go back to church” “Send me some Bible verses” and “Do you have a book on the fruits of the spirit?” Can I tell you how my heart was jumping in joy?

This may be the beginning of her road back to the Lord and I certainly hope so. It appears to be . . . but the enemy of God liked having her where she was, unused and stagnant spiritually.  I am guessing satan is going to pull out his evil tricks to keep her off course. Unused is his favorite place for believers to be.

And so, I am going to ask all of you to say a pray for her strength to follow Jesus again. There is such amazing strength in numbers!

Action~

Who have you been praying for a long time? Don’t give up . . . ever! Keep praying and trusting the Lord.  And lead your life as an example to them.

Prayer~

Thank you Father for hearing my prayer and using the circumstances in my daughter’s life to point her in the direction towards you again. Oh Lord, I pray she isn’t tricked again into the wrong path but that she remembers how important You once were to her.

Trusting in the Lord,
Becky

  2. Thank you, praying for my son, who knows the Lord, but lives without Him. For my mother, melt, the bitterness from her heart Lord. Prayers for your daughter, a protective hedge, with the blood of Jesus, surround her. God Bless you, Becky. Thank you for sharing.

  3. Oh my, thank you for this. I will certainly pray for your daughter and I ask for prayer for mine. She is in college and has become involved with an atheist young man. Her group befriended him thinking he would be converted but the opposite has happened. I don't even recognize my little girl anymore. One minute she is fine the next she is angry and disrespectful. Her grades are going down and has lost her scholarship and most of her christian friends. The young man preoccupies every minute of her time. I pray for a protective hedge to surround our kids and the space to see that these ungodly influences are destroying them.

  4. Dear Becky, I just prayed for your daughter and will continue to do so. Your blog is one of my daily devotional readings. Please include prayers for my son, his wife and 4 year old son. They are headed to court to end the marriage. Please pray for strength and God's wisdom and the best custody arrangement for my grandson.
