Bring joy to your
servant, Lord,
for I put my trust in you.
for I put my trust in you.
You,
Lord, are forgiving and good,
abounding in love to all who call to you.
Hear my prayer, Lord;
listen to my cry for mercy.
When I am in distress, I call to you,
because you answer me.
abounding in love to all who call to you.
Hear my prayer, Lord;
listen to my cry for mercy.
When I am in distress, I call to you,
because you answer me.
Psalm 86:4-7
Thoughts~
God talks to us about forgiving so much in His word. We know we are to forgive just as He forgave us. We are told to forgive everyone who hurts us. Not just the ones who hurt us horribly but the ones who hurt us even a little. Just type the word forgive, forgiveness or forgiving in the search box at
http://www.biblegateway.com/ to see all the verses about forgiveness!
What we aren’t aware of in such clear words is how to
deal with the hurt that imbeds itself in our hearts when we have been wronged.
That feeling of distress, of turning the hurt over and over again in our minds
is such a waste of our time but we do it because we are just so human.
One day after being hurt by a once close friend, I
searched God’s word and found the verses I’m sharing today which are really comforting
to me. When I have been hurt, and we all
have hundreds of times, I have learned to sit before the Lord, in my mind, and
go to Him like a little child would go to his or her parent. When we are
hurting, it’s so difficult to see clearly and outside of ourselves. We focus
too much on our hurt. But by imagining myself sitting at the Lord’s feet,
sharing my heartache, I ‘m able to see how small my hurt is compared to how I
have hurt Him. I’m able to see how the enemy of God uses hurt to get our eyes
off of the One we love and onto our own selves. “When I am in distress, I call to you, because you answer me.” Hurting
is distressing and I have learned that by sitting at his feet, I can give Him
the hurt to mend it like no one else can. He is, after all, the Master healer.
Action~
Learn to go to God immediately instead of trying to
dwell on the hurts that have troubled your heart. Imagine yourself sitting at
His feet and then share with Him how you feel. The Holy Spirit will take over
and bring peace to your heart and you can forgive your “hurter” and move
forward in your spiritual walk instead of allowing the chains of hurt to hold
you back.
Pray~
Lord, thank You for forgiving me from all the hurt I
have caused You and others. Help me to give up the hurts that plaque me and
forgive others for the wrongs they have done to me. It’s not easy but I know You can help me.
Trusting in Him,
Becky
